The Junior Accountant provides essential administrative, clerical, and bookkeeping support to the Financial Accountant at the Ethiopia branch office. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the branch's finance function, including timely processing of transactions, meticulous record-keeping, and general office support.
Your Tasks
Bookkeeping and Transaction Support:
- Accounts Payable (A/P):
- Receive, sort, and organize vendor invoices and payment requests.
- Ensure payment documents are properly approved, have purchase orders (POs), if necessary.
- Prepare payment batches and supporting documentation for review and approval by the Financial Accountant.
- Maintain an organized and up-to-date vendor ledger.
- Accounts Receivable (A/R):
- Assist in generating and distributing customer invoices.
- Follow up on outstanding withholding tax certificates under the Financial Accountant's and Credit Controller’s direction.
- Process and record daily customer receipts.
- Payments Processing:
- Assist in preparing and processing staff claims and third-party payments.
- Prepare documentation for and record petty cash transactions, ensuring proper authorization and reconciliation.
- Data Entry and General Ledger:
- Accurately and timely enter financial data into SAP/S4 Hana.
Administrative and Compliance Support:
- Filing and Record Management:
- Maintain a well-organized and secure physical and electronic filing system for all financial documents (e.g., invoices, receipts, payment vouchers, bank statements, tax documents).
- Ensure all documents are readily retrievable for reference and audit purposes.
- Bank Reconciliation:
- Gather and prepare bank statements and necessary documents to assist the Financial Accountant with bank reconciliations.
- Tax and Audit Assistance:
- Assist in compiling supporting documentation and schedules required for the preparation of tax returns and statutory filings.
- Aid in the retrieval and organization of documents for internal and external auditors.
- Office Support:
- Handle confidential financial information with discretion.
Your Profile
- A Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or currently pursuing a professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA)
- 1-2 years of experience in a clerical, administrative, or entry-level accounting role is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (e.g., basic formulas, data sorting, and formatting).
- Familiarity with general accounting principles and basic bookkeeping procedures.
- Experience with an accounting software/ERP system is a plus.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous and highly organized with a strong commitment to accuracy.
